We have Baby Fish!!!

(Our 3 Baby Fish!)
(Daddy in the nursery tank)
So after the zoo field trip in the evening on Friday Justin (my Hubby) thought he saw baby fish in Daddy Cardinal's mouth. And like seeing the eggs we question 'did I really see that or do I want to see so am I seeing thing?' What a fine line when you are staring into a fish tank at a fish's mouth hoping he opens it enough to see something inside!!!

Saturday, Day 9 of owning him, we decided we were going to try and move him from the big tank to the nursery, not easy!!! We tried chasing him around the tank with nets, he was very fast.... coming at him from both sides, he just dived into the liverock.... we really didn't want to stress him out since he was carrying precious cargo! Justin had to start stacking liverock (carefully placing corals safely) out of the way till we found the rock he was hiding in and it was a nice hiding spot!!! We put the net up to the rock and then shook him out! YES WE GOT HIM!!! Took Blue Boy out of the nursery, he did his job staying alive =) And put in Daddy Cardinal in! Then Hubby had the hard work of putting the tank back together, he decided to make a mountain with the liverock, hahaha it's pretty funny will have to post a pix of it!

Sunday, Day 10, We did SEE BABIES in his Mouth!! They were darting to the open of the mouth than back were we could not see them but they were there no questioning it we both saw them!!! We thought that we would have a couple more days till he would spit them out....

Monday, we have had him for 11 Days!!! Hubby rush me downstairs Monday morning as I was getting everyone ready for school to show me BABY FISH!!!! Since he went to bed that night at like 1 in the morning and the babies were still in Daddy's mouth it must have happened in the wee hours of the early morning on Monday! Justin was worried about Dad chasing on of the babies around so he quickly scooped him out and put him back into the big tank. As we counted 1... 2... 3... I couldn't help being a little disappointed 3 babies! I was thinking 20'ish. With the survival rate not going in there favor I was hoping for a bunch so that we would have some hopefully make it all the way! Why do we have only 3? Well Dad how has not had a bit to eat in weeks could have been really hungry and... or we lost some when we moved him over... or could have even lost some eggs before we got him since he was transported into the fish store with them and then to our house... or maybe there just 3! Who knows!?! So now it is all about raising sea monkeys (brine shrimp) from eggs to feed to them several times a day!

Friday's Zoo Trip

Wow what a Long Weekend!!! It started with the Zoo Field Trip with my son Cole and his class! Talk about exhausting..... The 2nd graders were wired and very excited on the 1 1/2 - 2 hr. drive to the zoo and after walking 3-5 miles (depending on how many did the tram) of trails and some very cool animals, they were falling asleep on the way home! Cole had a great time seeing the polar bear, crocodiles, frogs..... his favorite were the otters playing and buying his camo monkey!!! It is all ways rewarding to send time with your child on an event like a cool field trip =) I hope that he remembers it as a Great Time w/ his Mom!!! <3

Sea Hare Laying Eggs

Well mystery eggs solved... caught 'Mom' (and well 'Dad' too since it has both parts) in the act laying more eggs!!! So I guess we will have tons of little sea hares running around soon! If no one eats them first!!! I think the first batch has hatched b/c they are missing but the tubing (it's clear) is still there so I don't think they were eaten but have not seen any ether. I am going to have to look that one up, maybe they are too small to see.

Nursery tank

Caught "Blue Boy"

Hahahaha.... SUCKER!!! Found this homemade fish trap much more efficient then chasing a damsel around the fish tank with a net! Just cut the top off a bottle (most us 2 littler bottles but the hole was to small for this 'big boy', we used a Voss water bottle) flip it over and put yummy frozen fish food inside!!! Put in tank and if he is hungry he will go in!!! (along w/ all the other hungry fish but it is easy to separate them out) So now Blue Boy is testing the water in our nursery tank!!! Day 2 of him in there and so far so good!!! Hopefully it will be good for baby fish if they hatch! Still have not seen any babies in the Cardinal's mouth but he is still not eating...

March (what is today?) 23, 2010

Nothing new to report on ether sets of eggs =( We are playing the waiting game... what fun! So Lila and I went to the park today, had it to our selfs since it was on the chilly side!!! But it was nice to be warmed by the sun (something I need) and played in the sand!!! Justin was able to finish the little tank so now we have a nursery tank and the next step is to catch the damsel fish (the tester) and put him in it to make sure it is liveable! The trick is catching him with out getting poisoned by the Lion Fish, my other Baby!!! So we have put in a twrap (like Elmer Fud says) and hopping that he will take the bate. Well calling it a night not that I will fall asleep anytime soon..... do I go out in the cold to get the book I am reading or just start a new one and leave that one for carpool.... I don't know! Good Night All!!!
